A couple of days ago I noticed fresh water leaking from the toilet area, actually it's the other side of the shower/toilet wall under the bed. It's quite clearly fresh not foul and I've an idea it's linked with the flush itself - but that appears to be a sealed area. There's no dampness in the garage area that is just beside it all.

Clearly I need to get down and investigate at length once we've sorted ourselves out now we've returned home. I've had a looksie on Google to see if there's anything obvious to look for, not with any real success

Any suggestions?

Thanks Kev, I'd already found that, but it's not relevant to mine as it's a self contained flush system on that one.

After removing the cassette, to empty it and give it a clean, I gave the inside of the main unit a good wipe down as it was a tad damp.

I reckon the "problem" is probably operator error (despite the operator being warned previously) I reckon it's due to the flush being used incorrectly resulting in water getting between the blades between the bowl and cassette. A final warning has been given 😉

It seems the seal maybe getting a bit tired, although it hasn't hardened or cracked or suchlike. I've given it all a good cleanup and a squirt of silicone lubricant and it does appear to be better. I'll give it a bit more shortly and then keep an eye on what's happening. I could swopover cassettes as I have a new spare, and then purchase a new seal as they're only £13.50 on the bay.

Hello,

Can anybody inform me of the Thetford parts numbers for all replacement seals for Thetford toilet cassette C403L?

Additionally, I need to replace the Valve blade opener seal/unit as it leaks. Is this usual? It has only just started to do this.

Warm Regards,

The refresh kit is a seat, a complete cassette and some fluids. Not seperate seals.

When I got to grips with my cassette and set to dismantling it, wearing protective vinyl gloves, I felt that perhaps there wasn't actually a problem with the seal.

It was still rubbery and flexible, however there was a large buildup of impacted toilet roll all around the mechanism.

I stripped it all the way down very easily, and then cleaned it out thoroughly before reassembling it.

I then tested the sealing and it all worked properly, new seal unused but retained as a spare.

I'm positive that someone doesn't dispose of the paper correctly and manages to trap bits of it in the mechanism. A training session has been organised.

Oh heck I have been sussed, just a bit of humour to help the day along, did it on my phone so quite brief, hate doing it that way.

No offence meant to rescue of course.

A common issue (geddit) We no longer use the van for numbers 2s if we can avoid it, the cross legged walk is so much more fun.

Why wear gloves though, hands can be washed, need a fingernail brush though.

"OPERATION SEAL" ALL DONE. After all the help I received identifying parts (seals) for replacement I thought I should include a few pictures of a job well done. My better half, disposable gloves, 2 cross-headed screwdrivers and some silicone spray sufficed. The removal of the round access hatch was troublesome but succumbed to brute force.

We had, of late, noticed more odour coming from the holding tank and a distinct dribble from the vent button and blade actuator. So, a decision to replace all the seals was taken.

It was a slow job (for us inexpert people) but we just used our best judgement. If we can do it anybody can!

Thanks and we hope for a less smelly future.
