I read yesterday that the BBC are stopping this aspect of their broadcasting from 30/01/20. Alternatives are to watch the BBC News channel or log in and watch the on-line stuff.

Do any of you folks use the Red Button for news snippets?

Every morning while at home (or away if in satellite range) we usually peruse the Red Button for news whilst enjoying our first coffee of the day. Its especially useful for catching up on news from home (Wales) which doesn't tend to make the national news. We don't always have wifi when we are away.

We will miss it [frown]

When I saw Graham’s title to this thread I thought the same Al!!!

We tend not to use the tv in the van. Instead we get the news on our ‘phones as long as we have a signal. At home it is always the 24 Hour News Channel.

I 'think' they are keeping the video options...which may well mean that they use it for live events like the Olympics as well

I almost never seem to watch BBC but I suppose they’re having to make cuts to save money.

I don't think they have thought it through very well though, it will coast a fortune to go round taking off all the red button of peeps remotes won't it., and in Ireland, it will cause severe problems.

I'd forgotten it was still there, just tried it.

Isnt it now just a tv version of the bbc news app? I always check the news on my phone/tablet via that and other news apps.

Same with the weather, If I don't like the weather on one app i'll check it out on another to see if its any better. [idea]

I always use the red button function accessed from the TV handset to get quick update on news etc. If you mean the red button channel....no don't use that.
