Last week I had an accident and broke the EHU socket, it pulled out to its housing.
I had it fixed by Gordon our lovely little young mechanic, plugged it into the house for the fridge and it worked fine.
Today nuffink, so I drove the van to its normal spot and plugged in, all fine, tested with our rapidest 13 amp socket tester and all lights were on telling me all is as it should be.
Went back to the house socket and if I turn the plug upside down all the lights come on, the right way up it says there is a neutral fault.
So move van back to house, plug in upside down, nothing. Used the tester again alls well 3 lights are on.

As it works on the place where the van normally stands and not on the house socket the only thing I can think it could be is the wiring in the cable, but it worked on Thursday & Friday because I used it to heat the water and the fridge.
I thought I would use the big orange cable from the van, but thats got the EHU plug on the connecting end and I only have the normal sockets to try and they work with the tester so should I take the cable to Gordon to test?

Yes is the short answer jan unless you have a multimeter and can test it out yourself. Could be a loose wire in the plug as you say it works upside down.bear in mind with your plug in tester it’s not putting any load on the socket like a fridge or heater would. Could try turning everything off in the van then connect ya cable and plug ya tester in on of the mains socket in the van and see what happens.

Needs testing by someone who knows what they're doing. Cable needs wiggling about (technical term, that) while the meter is connected in case there's a make and break inside.

Socket on the van needs checking too, as that was wrenched too.

When I'm at home I leave the van plugged in but nothing actually switched on in the van, I let solar keep things topped up.

I have a short lead (about 12 inches long) with a domestic plug on one end and a blue socket on the other end. That way I can use any EHU lead to connect the van.

I think we have one somewhere, but where?
The socket was mended last week Geoff and it works today OK on the plug that´s normally used.
Yes Alan there is a multimeter, but I have never used it, seen Hans use it enough times though, coz I either have to press the button or hols the two pin thingys still.
If I new how to undo the big blue plug I could have a gander, but I don't know how to, never seen him undo that.
I will take the lead down to Gordon after I´ve had a rest.

So I've undone the plug, of course I have seen im do it, suddenly remembered when I had a rest, with a long screwdriver, 2 screws, found the trouble the brown wire is out, but I can´t put it back because I can´t  yet find the electrical doings that cuts off a bit more plastic covering. must sit and think where that might be.

Would anyone like to come and find this electrical wire cutting box, I can find stuff I haven't seen for years, drills and bits and cutting tools and everything else a precision engineering shop has, but I don´t know where he has the leclic box. I´m gonna make a video of where all the stuff is so I shall know when I want something, bet he could tell me from his hospital bed if he were awake exactly where to look.
Anyway, I did it the old fashioned way wiv a very sharp knife.
Now the new wire wouldn´t go in so I fumbled about until this bit fell out, now I guess thats a special thing to keep the wires together, but if I twist the wires like what we used to do will that be OK?.  Sorry the twisty bit is out of focus.  Any idea why he put the red cross there?

The Red Cross is so ya know that’s the live wire hole the bit that fell out is probably the screw that holds the wire in can’t make it out properly without me specs jan. No I can’t go in and get em as I is sitting in the garden wiff a glass of wine and can’t be arsed to move incase the sun goes in. ☀️🌤⛅️🌥☁️

All done and dusted, found the lelic box, corse twernt a screw silly boy, you think I down know what a screw is.
I put a new coat on it and tightened it nice screwed the two bits together again and pop goes the weasel, checked with the tester and 3 lights so all is good.
Don´t need the fridge now, unpacked it and turned it off. IMG_2716.jpg  IMG_2717.jpg  IMG_2718.jpg
Next project is to find my little cable from computer to camera, I put it in the Navajo somewhere but its not in the computer bit box.

Undid it to do this, had to shorten the other 2 wires a bit to get it in.
