I have recently bought a replacement water pump with a non-return valve and before I connect it up I tried blowing and sucking thru the pump to see if the NRV was working. Nothing happened. Can anybody tell me if this is correct or shud the NRV have clicked in? Is there another way of testing. I dont want to install this unit until I am sure it is okay?

Yatesy, take the bull by the horns and connect it up, you will know for certain if it works or not. Why should it fail?

On the other hand connect the pump to a 12v supply, put the pump into a bucket of water and try it.

Agree with drew on this just put it in a bucket of water and try it as I’m not sure if you can run it dry. Better safe than sorry 😐

Thks for the tip, I will definitely give it a try. I have recently fitted a NRV in my van and by blowing thru the unit it a activated the valve. This water pump did not. So, the bucket of water could give me the answer

The non return valve is separate from the pump on my Hymer which uses a reich water pump. The pump can be bought with or without the valve.

The valve has a small arrow showing flow direction stamped on the mid point body of the valve. As it happens I disposed of an old pump recently but retained the valve as a spare. I was able to blow through it in the direction of flow, but not the other way.
