Ah but would you want something built by someone conscripted into having to do it?

My favourite MOT garage is located on an unadopted section of the local industrial estate and this bit of road is easily as bad as the picture above, and possibly worse whilst the council's section leading up to it is a good as a motorway, an interesting change from the usual scenario.

I guess that each unit blames the other's delivery artics for causing the damage (and they probably all gang up on the local bus company which also has a depot off the dodgy bit of road) and no-one can organise collective responsibility for getting it repaired.

I think my MOT in October contributed to my window needing to come out [wink]

I'd say Britains roads are getting worse year on year, but Wales doesn't seem to struggle so much and the majority of roads we traveled earlier this year were good to excellent in the main.

The main road in our village was recently dug up to put in new drop kerbs for the houses by the road. They made a right pigs ear of making the road good afterwards and loads of the locals affected complained. They came back a week or so later and finished it off properly.

A few months down the line and they are now digging the same stretch of road up to put new drains in. [confused]

The same happened when we lived in the Chilterns Pete. One week the lane was dug up for telephone cables. The next week the same lane was dug up for water pipes!

What a waste of money!

Where we live it's straight across from a T-junction that is on a very slight incline. When it rains the water cascades down the road then follows its natural path and floods on the corner about 75 yards from our house right in front of a neighbors house. The council sent a team of workmen to sort out the problem. After much head scratching, measuring and phone calls they dug up the road right outside our house and installed a drain. Before they even started I pointed out that where they proposed to put in the drain was at the highest point of the road and the water streams down the opposite side. "Head office told us to put the drain just here so that's where it's going". Result, whenever it rains the corner still floods. The poor chap on the corner was beginning to panic last week with the downpours we were getting.
