Yesterday I received a letter from the government informing me that as I am approaching 80 years of age they are increasing my pension by 25 pence per week from next month.

I am at a loss to know what I can do with the extra income. I have been scouring the charity shops for a bargain but can find nothing under £2.50 then my wife suggested a bar of chocolate but sadly I can't find any thing for 25p.    25p won't even buy a stamp for the letter I was going to send to thank HMG for their generosity.

My heating has been on 24/7 ever since I came out of hospital, so that's blown my winter heating allowance.

Damn, neither my wife nor I can remember getting such a letter, far less the 25p increase. I would write to them complaining except for the fact that it would cost me more than I'd recover.

How is it that 'They' always win?

Sold the blood? I've been a blood donor for over 60 years and never got more than a cup of tea and a dry biscuit for it - and sometimes not even that.
