A Neighbour and friend of mine races saloon cars and wanted a vehicle to tow his car to race
meetings and then live in it for the weekend. This is what he managed to pick up at an auction
for £2,000

Rear.jpg
Its an ex police prisoner transfer truck! Came fitted with fresh & waste water tanks, wash basin, thetford toilet, roof mounted air con, webasto diesel heating and an Onan 5.5Kw generator
built in. twin large leisure batteries lighting and electric sockets fitted all round the inside. Only done 107,000 miles with full service history - nothing for a 6 litre striaght 6 truck engine! Took  while to strip out the solid steel cell partition walls inside then I fitted laminate flooring for him.

He plans to build a shower, kitchen, bed and seating area. Also need to line the walls and make some window surrounds.
Not the prettiest conversion also not the most economcal to run but should tow his race car fine and offer plenty of space.
As he owns his own garage business I am getting a new cam belt fitted to my motorhome in exchange for doing the floor for him.[smile][smile]

Looks fine, assume he has got his licence sorted for C1+E, or if it's more than 7.5 tonnes gross it will be C + E.

Looked at a number of these, nearly bought one that was shorter but same truck basis.

I'd be doing some measuring, with ramps you might get a car inside to save towing one, it looks like a 22' body, a MWB PVC only has a 10' hab length, just a thought.

I'd love to do a van that big, I even have layout plans if needed.

Yes he has a full HGV licence. Its a 28ft body on Iveco 10 tonne truck chassis. He races Honda Accord VTEC saloon cars which he tows on a trailer. Toilet and shower are at the rear offside corner. Electrical control panel is quite amusing, it has switches and indicator lights labelled "escape hatch" and "cell doors".

Absolute bargain! Probably spent its entire life in top gear, trundling up and down the M1.

Now for the important bit: How to stop it looking like a prison van... I suggest '1968 Summer of Love' themed paintwork. Big flowers, badly painted, "Stop the War" and "I luv my Honda V-tec and my Honda V-tec loves me" - all down both sides.

I'll do it for £40 and a compression test on my V8.[biggrin]
