If you have a Fiat Ducato fitted with a fiat radio as standard, when you get the vehicle from new the radio is set to turn off after 20mins when the ignition is turned off. This becomes a bit annoying when parked up and listening to the cab radio, however there is a little known procedure that you enter into the radio buttons that change that to increments up to a maximum of 3hrs before closing down, I feel that 3hrs is plenty for most folk. Phil

I don't know but it could possibly be the same situation for other makes of radio.

Interested in this myself for my Boxer, so a quick search found the following, but note I have not tried it and have no idea if it works:

Unlike previous seasons, this radio links to the CANBUS system and is supplied with a timer to automatically shutdown to conserve battery power. The radio has two modes, one for when the vehicle is used as commercial vehicle (NORMAL) and one for use as a Motorhome (CAMPER).
If a customer wishes to change the amount of time the radio will stay on, please follow the instructions below:
* Turn radio on using central power button
* Within 15 seconds, simultaneously press FM AS and preset button 2. Each time this pair of buttons are pressed, the display will alternate between
NORMAL POWER MODE and CAMPER POWER MODE
* Ensure that CAMPER POWER MODE is displayed, then press MENU
* Using the UP and DOWN button now changes the display to show various adjustable items. Cycle through the options until RADIO OFF and a number of minutes is shown on the display. This will take approx. two presses of the UP button or seven presses of the DOWN button.

* With RADIO OFF shown on the display press the LEFT or RIGHT button. Each press of either button will alternate the number of minutes shown between 180 and 0
* With 180 showing on the display the setting is complete and three hours of radio operation should be possible. Press the POWER button to exit the menu and return the display to its usual view.

Please note that in NORMAL POWER MODE the same subsequent steps detailed above can be followed, to choose between 20 mins and 0 mins of radio operation.

Yes it does work I've done the procedure on my van
So I can have the cab radio on quietly at the front and the hab radio on quietly at the rear and so have equal sound as you move about the van. Phil

I'm pretty sure that procedure only works on vehicles up to 2015 (x250 models) and doesn't work on later x290 models. As far as I know, those cannot be altered.

@Hoops, your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to try it out on your new vehicle and let us know the outcome. 👍

Most radios now require a permanent live feed as well as a switched live feed to turn it on. All I did was to cut the switched live feed cable and isolate the live end. Added a second wire to the permanent live feed and then connected that via a manual switch to the radio switched live feed wire and now all I have to do is turn the radio on whenever I want it. Cost me a switch and a piece of wire less that £1.

You could be right as mine is an 2014 X250 though why they would remove that facility from an X290 when thay are the most popular vehicles for conversation's would be very unpopular I'd have thought. Phil
