I’ve been with Safeguard for all my MH life ie 12+ years. This year the renewal came through and I thought I’d just check to see how much Comfort were as Woody has praised their breakdown coverage recently.

I obtained a quote yesterday which was a fiver cheaper than Safeguard so perhaps I’ll change over. I immediately it a phone call from them asking if I was happy with the quote and could they help to proceed. I said, no I’ll do it today when I have time.

So today just now I phoned Comfort to proceed and I ended up speaking to a 13 year old girl I’d judge by the style of her talking

She then wanted to go through all of the details I’d put in the damn quote in a horrible squeally voice, and complained she couldn’t hear me fully - yet I could hear her and the rest of her damned department jabbering in the background.

Then we got to argue about my alarm system, was it Thatcham 1, 2 or 2-1 ? How the hell do I know, I told her the name and model. She wasn’t happy because I didn’t tell her a number.

We then moved onto detailing accessories. So do you want to know that I have air suspension? Or satellite dish? Or Gaslow cylinders? Or solar panels? Oh no they’re OK, but we will do the sat dish separately.

Sadly she really got up my nose big time, and so I simply told her I couldn’t deal with her and as she was the front end of the company I wouldn’t deal with them either. And hung up.


My next call was to Safeguard, and a more friendly, likeable lady. I renewed with them very quickly and easily.

Companies! You need the right people dealing with paying customers. Because if you piss us off at the first hurdle we won’t be back.

We were surprised this years Insurance was cheaper Simon, especially as our recent breakdown in Greece must have cost our insurers quite a bit of money! We just received a new quote in the post and rang up to accept it. I guess once they have all of you details, (as Safeguard has with you), it is much easier to sort it out.

Did the person you spoke to yesterday not give to a number to quote when you rang back today? Usually insurance companies will hold a quote for 24 hours for you if you ask them to.

We are going to have to look for a new insurer this Autmn. Currently with the C&MC, who give us 270 days outside U.K. Think we will need more than that next year .... and the insurer needs to supply green cards for Eastern Europe. Can see a day of being on the phone come renewal.

I made a quote online and got a quote number, that was given to the girl and she then went through every part of it. I felt it was ridiculous at the level of interrogation by someone very inexperienced and unable to speak her mother tongue correctly. I’d perhaps understand it if she was one from a foreign call centre although I would have hung up even sooner.

I’m used to getting stupid questions when I look to change motorbike insurers, does it have a sidecar? Will it tow a trailer?is it petrol or diesel? But she demonstrated a complete lack of knowledge of everything and was going from a crib sheet.

The more I think of my experience, the more likely I am to put in a complaint to the company itself.

I usually ask for a supervisor Si if I get a numpty or annoyed, saves all the stress.
