hi kev

worth posting for not so technical people

i was going around the van yesterday to see if the 120v ac was working on the sockets

120 on some and had 170 on some as well

i checked the trips and found a 120vac needed resetting  once i did this the socket at 170v had gone to the correct 120v reading

im just wondering how this could be

i will study further as the van has

12v dc, 120v ac and 240v ac also

hi alan

yes it is was strange

i spent a little time today and came to the conclusion it may have been something to do with the 120v transformer

neutral and its common with the 240v common neutral

the transformer is earthed the same as the rest of the van

i think that the transformer being 3kva and not having any load may give  a higher reading but drop to an acceptable voltage
once some load is applied

resetting the trip may have placed some load on the transformer

the lighting on he van is all 12v,    i found a 65a , 120v to 13.6v power supply hidden in a cupboard it is what came with the van when built and is designed to power all the 12v items

according to the bumph on it it can also charge a battery if 1 is fitted to the system but

i installed a good older habitation battery with a 240v charger 12a that is 4 stage so quite good for the battery
