Now I’ve fitted a MPPT solar converter and a Solar Computer to my system I can see an indication of what volts and amps and watts etc. are going into my battery bank. I’ve also fitted a B2B charger to allow the alternator to charge everything faster when I am moving. The engine battery is now also being kept topped up by excess charge from the MPPT gong into it.

Well I think it does because I’ve seen differing values when the sunshine appears to be similar. Sometimes it’s 14.4v and 2.5a , other times it shows 13.3 and 0.0a

I was wondering if it shows zero when the batteries are actually charged fully? Then, how do I know what state of charge the batteries are at?

I’ve seen the Nasa BM-1 meter advertised, and used by several others and it appears to determine the actual “fullness” by use of a 100a shunt and computerised algorithms.

Great! But no it can’t be any use for me. My inverter can possibly spike over 100amps when the microwave starts up. That would therefore fuse the 100a shunt

So, question is, what else could be used? And is there a way to prove the actual capacity, or is that then too technical?

Watching with interest, as per my thread in this section entitled 'Habitation Battery Voltages', my solution to all voltage issues is to just buy another set of batteries [biggrin]

The Victron battery monitor gets better reviews than the nasa.
We had one but unless your full timing and are staying on non electric CLs as we were I don't think one is required, just look at the van control panel reading that will give you a general idea.
My philosophy is that the more you look into things the more you can create problems that don't exist.
I was talking to someone the other day who has booked into to have E&P levellers fitted, cost over 5 grand. We just use blocks that someone gave us for nowt.
