Thought this might be of interest
My funnel 80 mm 30 deg bend fits van exactly just needs leading edge extended slightly with a file no assistance required when filling and excepts quite a flow of water I don't ever dip water from a pond or stream so haven't bothered filtering but you could easily fix some (new) nylon stocking over the top with a elastic band

Sometimes the simplest ideas are the best. 👍

I'd be a bit wary of doing this, a dead sheep etc up stream could really ruin your day, not to mention other water borne nasties.

Won't a dead sheeps fleece strain out any debris before it reaches the funnel? And then the sheep won't fit down inside anyway. Problem solved 😉

Kev and Simon.l...what are you two like!

I think Witzend makes the point on another thread that he never fills from a stream, pond etc. I guess he hasn't got too many dead sheep in his tank!

We bought a funnel with a mesh filter the other week, just to ensure that no grit etc goes in our tank when we are filling from taps on our travels. In Greece we often fill from the showers on the beaches, and the occasional bit of sand /grit can be found in the water. A simple fine mesh filter on the funnel seems to keep the worst at bay. - No 'rubbish' in the bottom of our tank yet anyway! (We have just replaced our filter with a new one, - about £10 from Mole Valley Farmer's......if you have such a shop near you! I know some members here have a branch locally). It is money well spent if it saves the tank!

Err I never said you would [rolleyes] [biggrin] [biggrin] but some peeps might follow suit and think that a good, idea, so I being a responsible bear (yeah right) thought it a good idea to post a little info on why you should not.

I have drank from a stream up in the wilds, but a mouthful is very different to a tank full.
