The cost for the Dartford crossing is to rise from £1.67 to £2 wef 1 Oct. This will only affect pre pay account holders. That'll be me then....

Theres no toll booths anymore Paul its all done by numberplate recognition, you have to pay the charge online within 24hrs I think or you'll get a fine.

Shit, that's screwed it then, how can you pay online within 24 hours when travelling to Dover though with no internet access?

Its been like that for a while Paul. I would give them a ring and plead ignorance and that it was the first time you used it. Not guaranteed but I have heard that they sometimes let first time offenders off with a warning so worth a try.

Its free after 10pm on the bridge don't know about the tunnel though.
We did get away with it last year as it was a first offence just forgot
to do it but they said we would be fined if we did it again.
Good luck Paul. Let us know how you get on.

Just looked it up and the tunnel is free after 10pm Paul.[big-thumbs-up-smiley-emoticon]

I don't think I would fancy it on a pushbike, especially in that tunnel, its a madhouse at peak times.

I think if you don't pay you will initially get a penalty notice by post with an opportunity to pay the toll within a set time. Apropos of nothing, I remember when.the first of the two tunnels opened, for two way working, there was a special bus service for bike and pedestrians. They were specially built lower height double deckers with the roof curved to fit the tunnel. Passengers up top, bikes below. A lot of people on the Kent side worked in Essex, particularly at Ford.

Hi Tony,

Love your sig.

Did you know that 'fruit flies' - dropsophilla '  - are the bane of home brewers and wine makers as they can spoil a brew if you let them access to it whilst fermenting coz they can introduce spoilage bacteria which turns everything into vinegar.

Not that it's ever stopped me drinking the product of my labours. [wink-smiley-emoticon]

Sean.
