I dont know if its come up before but because of the rubbish radio in the motorhome, Peugeot based cab, I installed one of those DAB signal converters this afternoon. Must say that so far very impressed with the improvement. A bit fiddly to locate the aerial but not too bad. It even gives me hands free calling on the mobile. Most of the stations that Ive tried come through loud and clear. All for around 40 quid.

My car has the option of DAB or FM reception. The DAB signal often drops out, so I stick with FM.

It annoys me the we were fobbed off with DAB just to increase the available bandwidth (or whatever it's called) for more stations, when the reception is crap in so many places.

Is it still planned to discontinue FM, I dunno?

The BBC announced in 2018 (spring I think) they were scrapping plans to phase out FM transmissions and they would remain available alongside DAB, Internet etc.

Of course, things change....

Personally, I find DAB works well- both our mh and main car have DAB radios and we use them at home.  I can't recall finding anywhere where the FM coverage has been better than DAB in the UK, it has either been both or none.

Our previous mh (a Swift) had a hopeless antenna (a normal whip IN the pillar supporting the Luton, no I am serious).  It had an FM radio. When I added a decent antenna (on the roof bars, I'd had added for my amateur radio antennas), reception was fine.

Regards

Brian

We bought a similar one a couple of years ago for the van, got 2 aerials so that we could use it without having the engine running, we have a 12v socket at the rear end of the van so it goes in there or in front 12v socket when travelling.
