The top hinge on our garage door is creaking like a very creaky thing.

Theres no obvious way to oil these hinges, i'm thinking if I can get the plastic top cap off then I could put some lubricant in the top but it wont budge and I don't want to force it and damage it. Is there a specific way to remove it?

Also, whats the best type of lubricant to use, the bushes inside look like some sort of plastic?

TIA

Pete

I had one on my hab door got so stiff it snapped, I changed it for a new one then drilled out the pop rivets on the other two and soaked them in warmed up oil for an hour, been fine for the last three years.

It looks like one I had on my CIRiviera. The pin used to walk its way up out of the hinge. It was steel running in plastic bushes. Try to remove the lower cap, it’s a mushroom shaped plug, and then carefully drift the pin out upwards which will remove the top plug. Then rub off the rust with 1200 grit wet and dry, oil it and the bushes or a dry graphite lube, and then drift it back in.

Don’t dislodge the spacers between the hinge parts.

hi on my previous van i ended up taking the hinges off
getting them apart and drilling out the bushes slightly bigger

problem with plastic bushes is that they can swell with heat or lubrication

Theres a few hinges on OLearys website Al but I don't think the profiles are quite right, i'll see if my man can fix it first.

Thanks all for your help.

They are a terrible design Pete, loads of threads on facts for them over the years.
