My PC is a few years old now and only gets used infrequently - something I’d like to address and not just play around on the iPad. But it is getting sloooooow, probably all the windows updates is my guess, but I’d like a clue what to do next. That will not include buying a Mac or going to Linux or suchlike.

here’s a couple of pics of the system. Running win7 with loads of ram and a good speed too, when it wants to.

C&D drives are the system drives, the other 2 large ones are insertable separate drives that plug in like an 8track cassette and have all my photos etc. on them.

I‘ve moved loads of stuff from the C drive to the D drive to release some space - but still it fills up!

any thoughts as I do not want to buy a new tower unit. Can I rip,out win7 and install 10, would that help? There’s a computer repair guy a half mile away that I’m considering using, but hopefully someone here may have an idea.

How long since you defragmented the drives?

Quite recently. They’re not the problem.

almost every thing inside the C is low memory, the only ones showing anything more than a handful of MB are these

Program files 2.13gb
program files x86  more than 5.23gb
users 25.6 gb
windows 18.4mb

So where’s  400+ Gb being used? I’m baffled.

Move your documents folder from the C drive is one trick that usually helps. Another is to make your D drive where your swap file sits. You are critically short of space on your C drive so you need to get stuff off of that. There are loads of links on Google on how to do what i suggested rather than repeating the instructions here.

Simon, you can't take it with you, pop into the Apple shop and treat yourself to a real computer.
