They certainly had everything in writing Pete....including all information for border crossings and travel insurance. I know whom they had all insurances with, as they wrote and told me yesterday, but I am reluctant to put too much information on an open forum. One is a retired teacher, and the other a retired university lecturer....so they are both ‘people of detail’ and would have been sure to have everything  in place before leaving the U.K.

Of course their situation is different to ‘tourists’ as they have homes in Greece, and also both have citizenship, as well as him having Greek nationality. We would not risk it yet, but we are only tourists and don’t have the ‘paperwork‘ to flash at border guards etc! ☹️

This is for you as well Pete. We are insured with LV.  OH rang them a while ago to ask if we are insured, as we booked our Tunnel and ferry from Italy to Greece in January. He was told that even though the advice now is not to travel, we would still be covered if we made the journey.

We are not going until you get us those Greek Passports though! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Another reason why it is going to be difficult for people from the U.K. to get across the Channel for the time being, - as well as the the two UK women in NZ today. (Not that any of us would be going to NZ in our vans! 😳).

We would still rather go to France than stay in the U.K. and use campsites, but I know many people will be happy to camp in the U.K. if necessary. It looks as if it is going to be ‘forced’ on all us all at this rate!

They want to keep us in Blighty in order to kick start the Economy.

Can't have all those ££ being turned into €€ and then being spent abroad in Johnny Foreigner land can we!

My thoughts exactly Graham. I have made that point on here previously. It seems fairly obvious to most people. It is the same as the FO advising against all travel abroad. If people can’t get insurance they won’t go......so another ploy to keep us all at home! 😡

I don’t want to stay at home there‘s too many foreigners here. I want to go where there’s a chance I can understand the locals.

We are staying put in the UK this year, work and Caroline's health dictate this so safer this year.

I hope you who want to go manage it, there's a lot more information and updates on the situation to come yet.

I know someone who is planning to do a lot of German Stellplatze August and September time.

It really does amaze me how many of you want to leave the UK to travel abroad, even the word Blighty conjurers up a time from long ago, I do not remember Blighty as I am sure a lot of you do not belong to that era.
After the pandemic we are enduring the UK needs the injection of your money for our economy to survive, I could travel overseas If I wanted to but my allegiance remains here.

...and hopefully you appreciate that the term "Blighty" (and indeed "Johnny Foreigner") are used tongue in cheek!

Good for you for staying in the UK. I suspect that most of us will however doesn't the ownership of a MH imply a desire to travel? Should folks wish to go abroad it isn't for any of us to say anything to stop them should they so desire.

We will be staying in the UK this year when we can eventually get away however we would prefer to be in Germany in September as planned. We also plan to visit Spain Jan - Mar next year but be rest assured we also do spend a fair amount of time touring the UK as well.

Graham

Well done Barry. I admire your loyalty to the U.K. We must all do as we wish, however I don’t see a desire to broaden my horizons, and enjoy European travel, as being disloyal to the U.K.

OH and I worked hard for our money, and we shall spend it as we wish, which means travelling in Europe, as well as the U.K. We have done two long holidays to Scotland, (including the NC500) and lots of touring in Wales over recent years, so are not anti the U.K. The advantages of touring in Europe though, where motorhomers are made welcome, doesn’t make feel guilty about spending my money abroad! It makes me angry however, when I feel forced to do so because the FO advises against travel outside of the U.K. and that advice affects my ability to get insurance.

We certainly won’t take any chances with the virus. In fact we have only been off the moor once since the lockdown and that was to pick up some fuel for the mowers at a ‘pay at the pump’ last week.....so I think we are more careful than most. At the moment though I am sure we would be safer in most EU countries than here!

hi coppo

we are also hoping to go to germany later in august but it depends on  the corona here

we have been informed by our friends that the german sites are going to be busy as they are getting a lot of bookings from the germans this year

it seems the germans are not travelling so far afield and prefer to stay in germany

also the dutch group of people that travel down to the campsite we stay on in portugal will not be travelling down till after christmas at the earliest

i think everyone is hoping for a vaccination to be available  before they start to travel properly again

Our friends are stuck in Italy Pete. - I can think of worse places to be stuck!!!

It seems Greece suddenly banned all sailings from Italy the night before they were dues to leave Bari. - Superfast had warned them when they booked that it might happen, so it didn’t come as a surprise! The first sailing will now be on 1st July, so they will have a two week holiday in the south of Italy.

Viamare have been excellent apparently and are doing their best to get them on a crossing as soon after the 1st as possible.
