OK, so in my 2014 Bessacarr I'm looking to be able to play some of my music library through the speakers while we're driving along. Should be an easy job via the Aux In port, except - there isn't one. Been years since I've been in a vehicle without one, but hey-ho, it's my first Fiat based auto, so perhaps they do things differently. In the glove box in the middle of the dashboard I've discovered a USB port that claims to be a Blue&Me port.
Now, a bit of time with Mr Google suggests I should be able to connect either a USB stick or an MP3 player or a phone to stream music, but can I get the darn thing to work? Nope. Nothing on the radio controls references the USB. The Media button just seems to reference the CD player. There's very little info about Blue&Me on the web, other than that it's a Fiat/Microsoft innovation that's failed to catch on elsewhere. But as a lot of motorhomes are based on Fiat, I'm hoping someone out there may have had this issue and - hopefully - solved it.
More web research suggests that it's the LCD display in the dash that gives info about the B&M functions. There's even a utility that you can download from the Blue&Me web site that allegedly interrogates the Blue&Me on the vehicle so you can see if the s/w needs updating. I follow the instructions to the letter - load the utility on a small USB drive, formatted in FAT32, insert USB stick, turn ignition to MAR (but not fully on) and system is supposed to burst into life and  tell me what version it is, etc etc. But nothing. I can't get anything on either the dash or the radio to react to the fact that the USB (or media player) is there. (yes, I've tried multiple USB's..)
So.. anyone else had this issue? The dealer didn't seem to know anything about how to make it work. I'm wondering if it should go to a Fiat garage as it's their technology. All very frustrating.. Any suggestions welcome! BTW, I have no steering wheel controls, just a dashboard controller for the functions on in-dash display.
Thanks in advance..

Sorry Chris I can’t help you, this is the first I’ve heard of it. My old MH has a DAB head unit I installed with an aux in port that I stick the iPad into to stream my music.

Although, as I’m sure many others may tell you, the interior of a MH isn’t exactly the place to expect to hear good quality music when on the move.

Is the head unit a Fiat device? Whether a Fiat garage would have a clue either is a moot point, they don’t seem to have good feedback 😉

Thanks for the reply. Yes, pretty sure the head unit is the Fiat original. I asked about replacing it and apparently it's about a grand.. :-(  Hence the desire to make the B&M work...

I can't help either, but I have a workaround.

Interesting, does anyone have any first hand experience of these? I had heard of FM transmitters, in fact I think i tried one about 10-15 years ago, and it was pretty pants. But I suspect the technology has improved. Anyone who's got one, I'd be interested to hear feedback. I know the sound won't be brilliant, but should be good enough given the background noise in the van!

Not had one for a while, but at that price, may as well try it, as the sound come through the radio it's shouldn't be that awful, and as you say it's in the van so not going to awesome whatever you're listening too.

I tried a different method a few years ago and that was running Bluetooth from my phone to a good Bluetooth speaker on the dash, it worked well enough.

There are two version of the Blue&Me software dependent upon the age of your unit.  Have you downloaded the correct version for your unit?
The zip file should be extracted to the root of the usb stick being used and have nothing else on it.
Suggest you use a small capacity usb stick as the unit may have a capacity constraint (you may already be doing this?).
As you've said you only turn the ignition on, do not start the vehicle.
Should then start installation.
If still struggling you may be able to get further guidance from Fiat Forum?

Interesting, thanks Gelly Its sounds like you have it working in yours.. Is it supposed to communicate via the LCD display in the dashboard? I have tried it with 32Gb and 4Gb USB drives, I don't have anything smaller these days! Both times the files are in the root directory as specified in the B&M web page.
Good tip re the Fiat forum, I'll have a look there as well..

Good luck ... so frustrating. Our last Fiat MH had the usb at the back of the central laptop store. You had to get on hands and knees to put the cable in. Didn’t have to do any formatting, just one of the radio buttons to play the music on phone or iPad. Ours was a Bessacarr too ... trying to think back. Sure we had to press one of the radio buttons a couple to times to get the correct option. Certainly didn’t connect to main display panel.
