Had a great time and the weather also obliged despite the forecast promising otherwise.

Spent the whole weekend getting two Austin A40 Sports ready for a container, both are stripped down so we had to make trolleys to carry the body/chassis and 6 large pallets full of parts and spares.

Hoping to get them uplifted this week, but rain is hampering our efforts as we have to work outside.

Boat sails on the 30th from Felixstowe, but there's one a week to Oakland CA so will probably catch the next one.

We leave for Holland/France on the 5th June.

Peter, I know your into photographs. Any pictures of the A40's. Just being nosy.

France / Holland. Going by ferry or Tunnel?

Saw the weather forecast for Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. Looks like the possibility of more heavy rain. Ouch!

Yep, went to Borrowdale in the lake district. Posted a review on "search for sites". Also finding it useful planning this year's trip to France.

The bl**dy container arrived at 09.15 today, not expected, so panic mode!

Got the cars and pallets finished and loaded in 2-1/2 hours, truck left at 12 midday.

Ross:  I have some pictures, I'll sort them out for you.

Tim has another one in California, that's a left-hooker. Can you imagine 1200cc and about 70mph top speed?

Peter

Here are some pictures as promised:

One of the two frames ready to take a car body/chassis:

The frames were originally stillages for plastic extrusion. We bought two off ebay and got our metalbashers to chop down the centre and add about 4ft of width. Then we bought heavy-duty jockey wheels which are used to get the frame off the ground and rolling. Once in the container they can we wound down so the feet rest on the wooden floor.

One of the cars being pulled out to be pressure washed:

Three of the six pallets of parts and spares, Rita doing the inventory:

Philip with the pressure washer, cleaning the black car:

The white chassis/body after cleaning and before we loaded the aluminium wings and body panels:

Both cars are sat on a 1" piece of plywood under the centre of the chassis/body, the white car had 10mm sheets front and back onto which we loaded body parts, wheels & tyres. Both were strapped down with polyester strapping.

Harwich - Hook of Holland, we cannot use the tunnel as the cars are LPG-fuelled.

From Nuenen after the show we take the engines to Deurne where they will stay with a friend, and we drive down the east side of France to Carpentras, coming back via Viaduc Milleu if all goes well. Philip is bringing his tent, Rita & I will use the trailer, and we will all use shower and cooking facilities etc.

Here is his tent by the trailer, note WiFi mast and satellite dish....

Still catching up on sleep after the weekend, legs and arms all ache!

Peter
