We shall be leaving on Friday to take on the NC 500 and this has just been posted on one of the other forums that I'm on.
Copied from Applecross campsite

Applecross Campsite

Unfortunately there has been a fire at Applecross campsite & the toilet block has been damaged. If you do not have a booking please seek alternative accommodation. Parties with a booking can still arrive. Sorry for any inconvenience. Campsite will be closed till further noticed.

Nick.

Hi Nick. I am thinking about doing the NC500 later in the year and would appreciate your views and any tips when you return. 👍

The good news is the campsite has been re-opened apparently.

I'm never surprised when people out in the sticks can get going again in a short time, yet when anything happens in a large city it's all doom and gloom for ages.

I was in Prague a few years ago when the big flood happened all over Europe when the Elbe and Danube overflowed. The old city was stranded without power, the underground was flooded and the only access was by way of bus. They suspended all bus fares, good move, and every shop was making do as best they could, sweeping out water and running lights with small generators. Life went on.

Remember the last lot of earthquakes in Japan, all those roads torn apart, 6 weeks ands they'd replaced them all, including bridges, it's not the people, it's the governments who get these things done.
