You can always ask on here you know..

Here’s a few pictures of my 7plus against a credit card to give you an idea of how the forum appears on it (in desktop mode) portrait and landscape views. The pics are a bit dark taken on my iPad in a darkened room.

My dear owners,  Simon and Randy,
I have just ordered a 6s iPhone with 128 g of whatever, I have ordered it from Amazon, it will be here tomorrow and if I think you have better advise for me I will listen [wink]  coz for, if I don't like what I get I can send it back.

I won't be using it as a phone-- phone, but with WhatsApp and facebook messenger, Skype seems a bit old fashioned now and I only used that twice or maybe three or maybe four times in 8 years, not much anyways. With these other 2 things I am finding it quite easy.
I think they take good photos as well and easy to use Apps with rather than the Kindle.
I have to get up to date with all you other oldies, but you won't catch me walking down the street talking to myself like wot a lot of people do, oh no.

[QUOTE=Pudsey Bear]For comparison here is the Android view on Samsung Galaxy S7 edge.)

Amazon have one for 244€ instead of 349€ 2018 model, sounds a bargain.

I think I may have been a bit hasty yesterday, over keen to get a phone. It will come today but it will be easy enough to send it back.
I suppose I should wait and see what the most popular choice and satisfaction of choice is. 😕

I went for a Samsung when I changed last year. I got an S9 which is a great phone with a nice big screen but fairly expensive. The display quality is excellent so you could go for a less expensive model. I think iphones are overpriced and many people are beginning to realise the cachet of owning one isn't worth the cost. It was very easy to transfer all the data from old phone (also Android) to the new one and their tech helpline is excellent.

I was an advocate of the old Samsung S5, and I still am, it is considered to be one of the best out there, but the camera of the phone has problems and I use mine a lot, it'd lock the phone up requiring a reboot, I'm now using the S7 edge, and it has proved so far to be a real gem of a phone, not too big but does everything I need with an excellent reliable camera.

I'd never buy a new phone, I fail to see the point and as Geoff says, Apple is less than the sum of it's parts at the price bracket they are in.

The iPhone I have ordered is not a new phone, it is off Amazon a 2014 model
with 1 year guarantee.

The Samsungs are all more expensive than that.

oops, teach me to check the link, I posted the wrong one and now I can't find the right one, must have been sold.

I paid £133 for mine 6 months ago and it's like new, even came with a case, best phone I've had so far.

It shows how robust they are though.

I bought it on eBay Jan, I had a saved search for one as I'd heard good reports on them, I just waited til one came up in my budget,  it was professionally refurbished and had a 12 month warranty.

I think buying a ‘phone is like buying so many other things in that if you have something you are happy with you will stick with it and recommend it to others.

I have an iPhone and cannot praise it enough. I bought it as I also have an iPad, and as Simon has mentioned in another thread, you can ‘tether’ them. I am not technologically minded at all, so having a gadget that ‘speaks’ to another one and does everything for me is ideal in my case! I bought OH an iPhone for his birthday a year ago, and even he finds it easy to use. (He is worse than me with technology!).

Apple products are expensive though, so it depends on how much one wants to spend. My sim free ‘phone and contract with Plusnet have both certainly paid for themselves since I have had them. Having said that, our daughter has a Samsung ‘phone as her works phone, and she is happy with it. As I said in my opening sentence....we tend to recommend what we have if we hare pleased with it.

Thank you Lin, you´re always so sensible dear [smile]

I honestly don't know how much I will use it, not for telephoning other than with the WhatsApp and Messenger to friends and relatives,  I don't need a sim card for that, just a wifi connection.
I think Apps will be the main thing for finding parking spots, I will then need a sim when travelling. I have these Apps on the Kindle, but for some reason they are very slow to work on there compared to a friends smartphone.

It will be here this afternoon, I will be able to tell you more tomorrow.

I keep having this stale perfume smell pass my nose, I don't use perfume so its not me [eek]

Not all mapping or Sat Navs require a SIM Jan, most don't as they download all the maps to the phone or SD memory card.

Don't get me going on smells Jan, I get them all the time, mostly Tea (which I really hate) and cinnamon, it can last for days or even weeks sometimes, I get other unidentifiable smells too.

Oh yes I think I have seen people talking about that on that station that's difficult to get sometimes.[biggrin]  I will have to ask you about that when I start to use this or another smartphone.

On Android you can download maps for Google, you select the are and it is valid for a year, CoPilot has a free version which downloads maps, there is maps.me, and loads of others on Google Play, I know Apple has a map app, but no idea what third party ones it supports so cannot comment on them.

Here is a link to the Apple one Jan. It might be interesting for you to read about it. It is very similar to Google etc and simple to use.

The one thing about Apple devices is that there is always someone at the end of the ‘phone to answer any questions, You just send them an email and they respond immediately...... booking you a time convenient to you to ‘chat.’ Then a clever ‘12 year old’ rings you.......answers all of your questions, (and takes all the time you need), and can even ‘take over’ your appliance and fix things’ with you on the other ended of the telephone line if you need them to. It is a real bonus for an idiot like me!

I have to say that Apple support and security is second to none, however, I forgot my password on the iPad, it was written down but got lost in the house move, so I cleared all my data off it, and posted it off to the buyer, he then couldn't use it, I rang Apple, and they suggested I took it to an apple shop as I didn't have any other apple devices, so 2 hours later I'm no better off the shop staff were beyond useless, so it's back home and onto Apple again, in the mean time I got a text message with a number in it, I texted it to the buyer he put it in and got nowhere, later I got another text, I texted it again with the same result so I went online only to find the iPad was locked for 14 days, any I managed to get that down to 7 days, so next Saturday I'm supposed to get a text with a web address in it, I now have the iPad back here, the buyer is fortunately happy to let me sort it out, hopefully I can as my patience ran out long before I sold the damned thing.

Your not kisdding about the security Kev, that one thing that really drives me crazy, I still have 2 Macs and I just cannot get it together with the passwords for each buddy thing that has to have a password. iCloud iTunes the Apple ID the ID the computer, now we start again with the iPhone.
I have already cancelled the setting up 3 times getting the passwords wrong and I have them all written down, but I still manage to put the wrong one in.[confused]

Jan, I'm not teaching you how to suck lemons, but your Apple ID is the email address that you gave them when you bought your first Apple computer.

Your password, again is what you first used when you registered your computer.

Ideally when you bought your second iMac you should have registered it with the same ID and password as the first one. By doing that, any App purchased by yourself would have been free to use on the second computer, and so on. We have three computers, two iPads and an iPhone (4s) on the same ID and Password

When setting up your computer you would have been asked to set up a Computer User Name and Password, if you did this it was done because you wanted to do it, not an Apple requirement. The same would go for your second computer. This can be disabled if you so desire by Security and Privacy in System Preferences.

When contacting Apple or purchasing Apps you will always to asked for your Apple ID and Password, nothing to do with the computer username and password that you may have set up.

Apple have done this to keep your computer, iPhone etc. save from being used by anyone else. If you require any further assistance, just ask.
